Monascus purpureus is a fermented red yeast rich in monacolins, substances effective in reducing cholesterol levels.

A suitable fermentation of the rice by Monascus purpureus enriches the final product with substances similar to the drugs most used to fight high cholesterol (statins), which can help reduce cholesterol and blood triglycerides. For this reason, red yeast rice is proposed to maintain normal cholesterol levels and to reduce them when one is already struggling with situations of high cholesterol.

Berberine is an isoquinoloin alkaloid present in various plants of the Berberidaceae family.
The mechanism by which this substance reduces plasma cholesterol levels differs, however, from that exerted by statins. While these drugs decrease the synthesis of endogenous cholesterol, berberine increases the activity and number of hepatic LDL receptors, facilitating the removal of "bad cholesterol" from the blood.
However, the association of berberine with statins can produce an interesting synergistic effect, also due to its ability to inhibit a protein (PCSK9) responsible for the partial degradation of LDL receptors in the liver (which statins instead tend to promote).

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) plays its primary role in cellular energy metabolism: in the mitochondrion, through the Krebs cycle, glucose and oxygen are transformed into cellular energy (ATP). CoQ10 decreases with aging, with malnutrition, with some drugs (statins), and after intense muscular effort; in these cases the only useful source of CoQ10 is dietary supplementation. Statins used to lower cholesterol significantly reduce the biosynthesis of CoQ10. Chronic CoQ10 deficiency can cause muscle weakness and heart failure.

WARNINGS:
Each tablet contains 2.8 mg of Monacoline. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Do not take a daily amount of Monacolins from red yeast rice equal to or greater than 3 mg. Keep out of the sight and reach of children under 3 years of age. Eskor should not be taken by pregnant or nursing women, infants, children and adolescents under 18 years of age, or by adults over 70 years of age. For the use of the product it is advisable to hear the opinion of the doctor. Eskor should not be taken if you are taking any cholesterol-lowering medicines or are already taking any other products containing red yeast rice.
